From 1 July 2026, new EU tachograph and driver hours regulations will apply to certain light commercial vehicles operating internationally within the EU.

What Changes?
The new rules only apply to international transport operations using vehicles over 2,500 kg gross vehicle mass operating within the EU.

Vehicles – Up to 2,500 kgs GVM – *Gross Vehicle Mass

  • Typically, 2-4 Euro pallets (Subject to vehicle availability)
  • Around 400-600 kgs payload (Subject to vehicle availability)
  • No tachograph required
  • No EU drivers’ hours restrictions
  • No changes to current operations
  • *Gross vehicle mass (GVM) is the maximum total weight of a vehicle when it is fully loaded with passengers, fuel, and cargo

Vehicles – Over 2,500 kgs GVM – *Gross Vehicle Mass

  • Typically, 8 Euro pallets
  • Around 1,000–1,100 kg payload
  • Tachographs required
  • The same EU drivers’ hours apply as for HGV vehicles of 7.5 tonnes and above
  • Daily driving limits, rest periods, and break requirements will apply
  • Typical operational range approximately 750 km before mandatory driver breaks and rest periods affect schedules
  • *Gross vehicle Mass (GVM) is the maximum total weight of a vehicle when it is fully loaded with passengers, fuel and cargo
